During the summer of May 2023, Asha Hilliard got the opportunity to study Fashion Photography abroad in Florence, Italy. She was struck by the absence of Black women as muses in classical sculpture. To address this, she created “Goddesses in the Garden,” a photoshoot directed to celebrate the natural beauty of Black women and reclaiming their place as subjects of classical art. She had the pleasure of art directing the shoot — starting with planning the concept, controlling warddrobe, creative directing the models, shooting, and editing all of the photos using Adobe Photoshop and Lightroom.
